In 2001, 44 young people in the Houston area found they had something in common: Cancer. Some had personally battled the disease while others witnessed loved ones struggling with illness.
These high-energy leaders created Young Texans Against Cancer (YTAC) to increase cancer awareness among 22 to 45 year olds. New YTAC chapters were added later in Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio.
YTAC is focused on raising funds for cancer research and support organizations, and uses its member base to increase awareness of volunteer opportunities and to help educate the community on cancer research. It’s an independent nonprofit charitable organization governed by a statewide Executive Board.
The CHRISTUS Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research was one of the first beneficiaries of YTAC in 2002. Since that time, YTAC has become one of the Foundation’s most loyal and generous supporters.
YTAC chapters raise funds through a variety of fun events, including golf tournaments, running events, fishing tournaments, game nights, and celebrity chef dinners.
For more information on other current YTAC happenings and event photos, visit YTAC’s website or Facebook page.
“Compared with other anticancer drugs at similar stages of development, camptothecins have demonstrated a much higher anticancer activity. Camptothecins can be envisioned as the ultimate anticancer drug when fully developed.”
