Gifts of Appreciated Securities

One of the most advantageous ways to contribute to the CHRISTUS Stehlin Foundation is a gift of securities. Making a gift of securities is simple and offers a number of benefits:

  • You can donate stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares
  • You receive a tax deduction based on the current value of the securities on the date of your donation
  • You pay no capital gains taxes on any appreciation in value since you acquired the securities

To contribute stock, click here for our 2-step instructions.

The instructions linked above include all information necessary to contribute stock. If you have questions, please phone 713-659-1336 and indicate you need assistance with a donation of stock.

Note:

  • Please be sure to notify the Foundation of your gift. Stock donations transferred directly to our broker frequently arrive without donor information. For the Foundation to provide you an acknowledgment and receipt, we must know your name and address as well as the type of stock, number of shares, and expected date of transfer.  Notify Stehlin of your gift using the stock gift notification form included in Step 2 of the transfer instruction sheet, or use the alternate contact information listed there.
  • CHRISTUS Stehlin Foundation Employer Identification Number (EIN)/Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) – 74-1622404.
  • Receipts for stock gifts (assuming we have your contact information and gift details) are usually sent the first week of the month following the month in which the stock transfer took place.
  • For maximum tax advantage, the stock you donate should be long-term capital gain property – stock you’ve owned for more than one year or stock you inherited. If the stock would generate a short-term capital gain if sold, your charitable deduction is limited to your cost basis rather than the stock’s fair market value on the date of your gift.
  • Many mutual fund shares cannot be transferred directly into our account. If you are interested in making a gift of mutual funds please contact Foundation President Bobby Anderson at 713-659-1336.
