Pancreatic Cancer Incidence Grows

According to a Pancreatic Cancer Action Network report, by as early as 2015 the number of deaths from pancreatic cancer will exceed those from breast and colorectal cancer, and be surpassed only by lung cancer.

A clinical trial of the experimental drug enzalutamide has shown it extends life by an average of about 5 months in the most advanced stages of prostate cancer, even after other treatments.

Scientists Find Evidence for Cancer Stem Cells

With the help of genetic tools, researchers have identified subsets of cells that appear to drive the growth of tumors in mice. The findings, from three independent studies, provide new support for the cancer stem cell hypothesis—the idea that some tumors are sustained by self-renewing cells that give rise to all types of tumor cells.
